Day 2 - Timber framing course

Today was all about laying up and marking of the side frames. Each mortice joint was cut with a chain morticer and the tenons with handsaws and chisels. Every joint was then drafted and numbered to avoid any confusion in the final assembly! By the end of the day we have a very solid looking side panel! #timberframe #handmadeinwales #mortice #tenon #morticeandtenon #chainmorticer #chisels #numbering #timberframebuilding #larch #timberframeconstruction #madeinwales #craftcourse

Meet the teachers - Timber frame building

The first of our summer courses will be timber frame building (click here for course details), run by three members of the Farey family. Over five days, you will collectively build a simple frame from start to finish learning the basic techniques of timber frame construction. We aim to build a small 3m x 5m cabin, probably using larch. Meet the Farey Family - https://www.facebook.com/elwyworkingwoods Adrian Farey and his two sons Joe and Fred form part of the Elwy Working Woo
