Stained glass decorated with sgraffito
See course details, dates, costs, tutors & stories from students below

Over two relaxing days, Brian Duffy will introduce you to the techniques of traditional leaded stained glass decorated with botanical themes, created with sgraffito or dipping pens.
On the first morning, you will cut your colourful glass to fit the shapes of the pre-set 30x35cm template you choose and matt each piece with black enamel. Creating your design on paper, you will first practise your sgraffito technique before scratching out your design on all the pieces you would like to decorate, revealing the colours below to create pattern and tone.
Brian will take these home to fire overnight and leave them to cool in the morning for a 10am start. You will then lead up your pieces, solder, cement and polish them to create stunning panels which you can display in metal frames made by Brian if you choose.

£225
plus approx £40 materials for glass and paint
to be paid directly to Brian and an additional £40 for
a handmade square metal frame if you choose
Tea, coffee and simple lunch included in your course price.
We also offer accommodation & evening meals

Brian Duffy began his journey with glass in an industrial setting after leaving school. As his passion grew, he sought to develop his skills and consequently spent five years exploring the light-altering effects of glass at university studying Architectural Glass Design. He then continued onto a Masters in Contemporary Applied Arts.
Over 33 years of working with glass, he has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in a wide variety of techniques. He has shared this knowledge for the past 20 years teaching students at degree level.
Now working as a freelance glass artist, Brian enjoys offering others the chance to discover glass design in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
