Beeswax Skincare – From Hive to Handmade Products - taught by Sami Blackford

14 June 2026 (all day) plus evening sessions on 22 June & 6 July (6.00-8.30pm)

This course has been designed with beekeepers in mind and is made up of three sessions, combining hands-on making with a clear understanding of the steps involved if you would like to develop products for sale.

The first session is a full practical day at Wernog Wood, where students will learn how to create a range of botanical skincare preparations using beeswax. The day introduces formulations and recipes while students make several products to take home and develop a good understanding of how ingredients work together.

This is followed by two further in-person sessions (2.5 hours each) focusing on the legal and regulatory side of cosmetic products. These sessions explore regulations, safety requirements, record-keeping and good production practice in depth, along with discussion around labelling, branding and the practical steps involved in bringing products to market.

By the end of the course, students will have hands-on experience making beeswax-based skincare products, understand how to develop and adapt formulations safely, gain a clear understanding of cosmetic regulations, and leave with a realistic roadmap for the next steps should they wish to develop products for sale. 🌿🐝

About your tutor

In 2013 Sami Blackford founded the award-winning botanical skincare company, Freyaluna. After battling acne for years and trying every product unsuccessfully, Sami began researching skincare in her mid-20s. Immersing herself in natural and holistic skincare, she created products that would actually care for her skin—grown not in labs, but in the meadows, hedgerows, and woodlands of rural North Wales.

In 2022 Sami changed track. A self-professed introvert, she now supports other introverted and quietly-ambitious women to create their own business brands.
